Volunteers gave play park a fresh new lease of life
A GROUP of volunteers got so fed up of vandalism at their local park that they did something about it.
Youngsters from churches all over Burton teamed up with members of East Staffordshire Borough Council in June 2004 to renovate Grasmere Park, off Brizlincote Valley.
The children’s play area, which had been increasingly plagued by yobs scrawling graffiti over equipment, was spick and span thanks to a few licks of paint and a bit of weeding.
Councillor Cedric Insley, who attended the event, said: “Young people are often seen in a negative way, and yet many of them do great things for their community.
“Graffiti may make the news, but clearing it up, as these people have, often does not.”
