Part of road closed after water leak

-

PART of a busy Swadlincote road was closed yesterday after suffering a water leak and is likely to remain closed until next week.

Burton Road, in Castle Gresley, near Toons Furnishers, was closed following the water leak on Wednesday, and yesterday one lane remained closed as repairs were carried out.

South Staffs Water is carrying out the repair and maintenance on the road. The closure is likely to be in place until Tuesday, May 24.

Bus firm Midland Classic said its services were affected by the closure on Wednesday evening. As a result, its Route 21 and school services were diverting via High Cross roundabout and Mount Pleasant Road to access Linton Road.

South Staffs Water has said the firm’s aim is to complete the work between now and May 24, but admitted that sometimes repairs can take longer than it would like as checks and tests may need to be performed. The firm also said customers may experience some minor water discolouration or lower than normal pressure during some scheduled works.

Nathan Harper, head of network operations at South Staffs Water, said: “We’ve carried out a repair to a burst main on Bridge Street, Castle Gresley. The road remains closed as we work to repair the road surface, which we expect to complete by Sunday. We’re sorry for any inconvenience caused and thank residents and motorists for their patience.”
