MP welcomes decision to start tourism partnership

-

BURTON MP Kate Griffiths has welcomed the move by East Staffordshire Borough Council to encourage tourism in the area.

And a cabinet member on the authority has said the initiative will be good for council taxpayers.

The council announced earlier this week the launch of the East Staffordshire Tourism Partnership, with its first meeting due to take place on Thursday, June 9.

It will be made up of representatives from across the sector covering local attractions as well as retail, food, accommodation, events, sport and leisure.

So far the National Forest, Uttoxeter Town Council, National Brewery Centre in Burton town centre, Barton Marina, the Brewhouse Arts Centre in Burton, National Forest Adventure Farm in Tatenhill and Uttoxeter Racecourse have confirmed an interest in becoming part of the partnership.

Ms Griffiths said: “I welcome the initiative taken by East Staffordshire Borough Council to establish a new Tourism

Partnership board to strengthen and encourage tourism in our local area.

“It goes without saying that East Staffordshire is home to many local attractions which are a big draw for residents as well as tourists. From being home of Burton Albion and the Pirelli Stadium to being the gateway to the National Forest, our area has something for people of all interests.

“I am delighted that ESBC are looking to further support our tourism sector and ensure that it continues to grow, supporting the local economy and jobs.”

Councillor Bev Ashcroft, who is deputy leader for tourism and cultural development at the council, said: “The new tourism partnership will bring together representatives from across the sector to work together to further develop and promote tourism and the visitor economy, which in turn will bring more money to the area, support local businesses and create local employment opportunities.”
