A UKRAINIAN refugee who fled the war to Burton is now teaching people in the area how to dance. Sergey Tverdokhleb fled his home country after the invasion by Russia.

Sergey joined his wife Hannah Chateris and has now started a new job as a dance teacher with 80s fitness class Mum-dance.

The 30-year-old is a highly experienced professional dancer with a Bachelors, Masters and PHD degree in dance, and enjoyed a successful career on board cruise ships while working for Princess Cruises.

He currently has eight regular attendees at his Tuesday night group, held at Granville Academy, in Burton Road, Woodville.

Sergey met his wife Hannah, 31, on board the Crown Princess ship.

After his last contract on board Majestic Princess, Sergey came to

Burton to spend the holidays with his wife, before moving here permanently following the February invasion of Ukraine by Russia. Now he is looking to expand the classes.

He said: “I am very excited to teach at Mum-dance as I strongly believe that dance accepts everyone. Leading a group of people who are dedicated to learning new dance moves and challenging themselves has always been my passion.

“I can’t wait to build a nice friendly atmosphere where everyone can be themselves. Plus, 80s dance style is one of my favourites as it has unbelievably strong energy and amazing music.”

The Burton class takes place at William Shrewsbury Primary School, in Stretton, on Monday evenings from 7.30pm to 8.30pm. The class at Granville Academy is held on Tuesday evenings between 7.30pm and 8.30pm.
