Crofters looking to relight the fire after two defeats on trot

-

BURTON aim to improve their setpieces and discipline when they travel to face Kenilworth in Regional 1 Midlands tomorrow (2.30pm).

The Crofters have lost two on the trot and failed to score a try in last weekend’s home defeat by Dudley Kingswinford.

Kenilworth are one place below Burton in the table and tomorrow’s game gives the Crofters a chance to get back on track before a short break in the schedule.

“We weren’t happy with our setpieces last weekend; if those aren’t working then you are going to have problems because you don’t have a platform to play off,” said Crofters head coach Harry Titley.

“Our line-out struggled and our discipline was an issue as well. We gave away 16 penalties last Saturday.

“We recognise that if you’re going to give away more than 10 penalties then it is going to be really difficult to win the game.

“Looking at our stats, when we give away under 10 penalties, then we usually win the game.

“So that is going to be a massive focus for us going into the next match, making sure we don’t give the opposition easy ball.

“We’re expecting another tough game.

“It goes without saying that all teams target winning their home games and Kenilworth will be no different.

“For us, it’s about keeping the faith and the confidence in the way we want to play rugby.

“We need to get a win to keep the flame burning and be ready to play

Lichfield in the next game after the break.

“I’m expecting Kenilworth to be quite strong up front. They will be very physical, so we will be looking to move the ball and use our strengths out wide.

“We want to get our four-try bonus point this week and make up for not scoring any last week.”

A blank weekend follows tomorrow’s match before the Crofters welcome county rivals Lichfield to Battlestead Croft on November 26.

“The break will come at a good time,” Titley added.

“We’re still carrying a few knocks with the likes of Ben Smith and Llyr Griffiths.

“A few of the boys that are playing are not 100%, although you never really are in this sport.

“So the break will come at a good time to have a bit of a breather from it all and go again for the next run of games before Christmas.”
