Charlton ‘not where they’d want’

-

DINO Maamria thinks tomorrow’s opponents, Charlton Athletic, will have hoped – perhaps expected – to be higher up the League One table than ninth and believes they will provide his Burton Albion side with a tough test.

“Charlton have some good attacking threats, no doubt about it. Their front line and midfield has a lot of variation. They can put anybody in and they fit in well,” he said.

“They are up there but not where they need to be. Arguably, they should be top five or six but they’re not there and, like every other team, they have their strengths and weaknesses.”

Maamria expects a strong away following to help contribute to a good occasion at the Pirelli Stadium after watching Charlton draw 1-1 away to Stevenage in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night and edge into the fourth round 5-4 on penalties.

“I think it will be a fantastic atmosphere. Their fans will travel in numbers, as I saw on Tuesday, and our fans will be at it,” he said.

“We have to start with energy, cover ground and get our fans behind us. We have to do the basics well and have the confidence and self-belief to go and win the game.

“At home, we have pulled off results against these big boys and we just have to go for it. We’re underdogs and we will go for it.”
