Police lay wreaths in remembrance

-

OFFICERS and staff from Derbyshire Constabulary joined the country in remembering those who have lost their lives in the armed forces.

An Armistice Day service was hosted by the force chaplaincy at the headquarters site yesterday.

Police were joined by representatives from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service, Unison, the Police Federation and Superintendents Association, and a two-minutes silence was held at 11am.

Chief Constable Rachel Swann and police and crime commissioner Angelique Foster laid wreaths and gave readings, which included remembering police officers and staff who served and sadly lost their lives during the World Wars.

Ms Swann said: “As public servants ourselves, it is extremely important and poignant for us to remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice whilst serving the country.

“Their bravery and determination to change things for the better was truly extraordinary and should never be forgotten.

“Every year, we remember them, and this year will be no different. Both today and Sunday, we hope people across the county will join us in paying their respects and honouring those we have lost.”
