Skip on back of lorry wasn’t secured

DRIVER WHO’D BEEN DOING THE JOB FOR 18 YEARS GIVEN A TICKET

A FULL skip placed precariously on the back of a truck with nothing holding it in place left police shocked when they spotted it and stopped the driver.

Officers were even more shocked when the skip driver told them he had been doing the job 18 years as he was taken to task by officers from the Staffordshire Police Roads Policing Unit.

He had two skips on the back of his red pickup - and one had nothing holding it in place when it was pulled over in East Staffordshire. A second skip had some chains linking it to the vehicle, said police.

Police gave the driver a ticket over the incident, after he said he could not see what the issue with the skips was. He was also reported to the Traffic Commission, said a police spokesman.

The policing team shared a picture of the truck clearly showing one of the skips to be full with no chains in place.

A spokesman for the unit said: “18 years this driver has driven skips and he doesn’t see the issue with this shocker in @Estaffspolice

“Let’s talk load security and the dangers of having absolutely none whatsoever. Vehicle issued a prohibition and driver given a ticket. Report to the Traffic Commission.”
