Aston Villa announced out-ofcontract former Arsenal winger Robert Pires would sign for them. He was released by the midlands club when his short-term deal expired in the summer of 2011.

Liverpool striker Luis Suarez was charged with using abusive and/ or insulting words and/or behaviour towards Manchester United’s Patrice Evra. He was later banned for eight matches.
