Prolific criminal is jailed after a month-long spree of thefts from shops

A PROLIFIC thief has been jailed for eight months after pleading guilty to a series of thefts from shops in Burton.

Arron Boswell was sentenced at Cannock Magistrate­s’ Court having pleaded guilty to three charges of theft from a shop.

Boswell, 43, of James Street, Burton, also pleaded guilty to two counts of failing to surrender to police/court bail at the appointed time, theft – other – including theft by finding, fraud by false representa­tion and burglary other than dwelling – theft, at an earlier hearing. The court heard how Boswell was involved in a number of thefts between September and October in Burton this year.

On Friday, September 16, Boswell entered a premises off Borough Road and stole a wallet and its contents. Shortly afterwards, he used a bank card from the wallet at a premises off Evershed Way to purchase bottles of booze.

Three days later, on Monday, September 19, he stole a mobile phone from a man. On Sunday, October 2, the 43-year-old, entered a premises off Station Street and stole electrical items, valued at more than £300.

On Tuesday, October 18, Boswell stole bottles of alcohol, worth more than £200, from a premises off Union Street.

Three days later, on Friday October 21, Boswell again stole bottles of alcohol worth more than £200, from the same premises.

PC Simon Jevons said after the case: “I am pleased that the magistrate recognised the seriousnes­s of Boswell’s offending and saw fit to send him to prison.

“I hope this brings comfort to his multiple victims and reassures the community that we are doing all we can to identify and deal with prolific offenders.”
