Cons, Belmont share top place

BURTON Cons A and Belmont A share top spot in the Newton Fallowell Premier Division of the Burton & District Clubs Snooker League.

Cons were pushed all the way before beating Ivanhoe A 5-3.

Dan Blunn took control early against Owen Jones and won on the colours, then added the second to give Ivanhoe an early lead.

James Hastie took on Matt Milnes and nicked the first when Milnes missed the brown. But he hit a loose safety shot in the second and Milnes rattled in 53 to level it.

Graham Stevens had breaks of 31 in each frame to beat Ant Moore. The last game saw Ian Rennocks struggle against Darren Coady to allow the Cons to come away with the win.

Belmont also won 5-3, in a table top clash away to Alrewas Legion B.

Kyle Cope had runs of 77 and 44 in his win over Tony Wills as Belmont did the damage in the second half, while Mark Sherratt beat Loz Kennerson.

Earlier, Tim Frowd of the Legion had beaten Rich Goldby and Ollie Murfin and Paul Bradford-ollie drew.

Burton Cons B jumped up the table with a thumping whitewash against stablemate­s the club’s C team.

Mike Buckland beat Andy Grainger with five breaks of 25 or more including a top effort of 33. Jon Swift beat Ant Rushton, Col Hamer took advantage of the miss rule to squeeze past Paul Slater and Dave Shipton played some excellent safety to ease him to a win over Simon Orpwood.

Alrewas’s A team beat Newhall 7-1. Nick Walker was Newhall’s only scorer in a draw with John Richardson. Lee Louch (42 and 31) Karl Hancox (32) and Thom Smith (55) were the other winners.

Ivanhoe B avoided defeat for the first time this season as they drew away against Tutbury A.
