COVID is expected to rise once again across the country as the cold weather sets in – in the same way flu cases rise in the winter months.

As with most viruses, Covid is predicted to spread throughout the winter and over Christmas as people mix more with loved ones.

Many are treating it now the same way they would flu by getting their booster jab for extra protection as we head into winter. The good news is that currently across the area a low number of cases are being recorded but many people will not be officially declaring they are positive any more, health bosses suspect.

For those who want to get the booster in Burton, there is a Covid vaccination centre at Pirelli Stadium, in Derby Road, in the Vera Goode Suite, also known as the North Bar.

A spokesman for the centre said: “We are now accepting walk-ins for the Covid-19 vaccination. If you are over the age of 65 then you are eligible for your autumn Covid booster jab. Anyone over 18 is eligible for their first, second and third (booster) jabs. If you have had Covid in the last 28 days then you are unable to receive your vaccination.”

Sessions are being held this month between 9am to 12.30pm and then 1pm to 4.30pm today and November 23 and 25. There will also be a session from 10am to 2pm on Sunday, November 20.

NHS Walk-in sessions are also available without appointment in Swadlincote at Oakland Village in Hall Farm Road. There are sessions today and on Sunday, November 20, from 9am to 6pm.

Sessions are also available at Newhall Pharmacy (today, 9am to 6pm, tomorrow 9am to 1pm, then Monday to Wednesday 9am to 6pm), Willington Pharmacy (9am to 6pm today and Monday to Wednesday).

Burton Fire Station, in Moor Street, is offering sessions for over-12s on Monday, November 21, from 11.30am to 4.15pm.
