CONFESS, FLETCH (15) ★★★II
It has been more than 30 years since Chevy Chase portrayed investigative reporter Irwin “Fletch” Fletcher, in comedy Fletch and sequel Fletch Lives. Mad Men star Jon Hamm takes on the role for a crime caper directed and co-written by Greg Mottola.
Angela de Grassi (Lorenza Izzo) requires some of her family’s priceless works of art to pay a ransom for her kidnapped father. She despatches her boyfriend Fletch (Hamm) to Boston to recover stolen paintings from an art dealer (Kyle Maclachlan), but when Fletch becomes the suspect in a
murder, he has to prove his innocence.
Confess, Fletch skips between the murder and ransom plots with the same carefree attitude as its leading man. Hamm exudes an old-fashioned playfulness that is difficult to resist and the script gifts him a full arsenal of bone-dry wisecracks.
