Good game but Albion seek a balance

-

MOST observers went away entertained by last week’s pulsating 3-3 draw between Burton Albion and Charlton Athletic and Brewers boss Dino Maamria hopes they will enjoy tomorrow’s game against Plymouth Argyle too – but he knows they have to find a balance between flying at teams and leaving themselves open.

Albion hit back to lead after trailing 2-0 but could not hold on for what would have been a precious three points in their relegation battle.

“Everybody went away last week saying what a good game it was, 3-3, end to end stuff and that’s good – but for us to start picking points up is about being smart in certain times to see games out as well,” said Maamria. “The progress is there to see and the goal is obvious for everyone to see. We would love to go win, win win but that won’t happen with the toughness of this league. “We’re always consistent with our debrief. We look at things we have done well and things we need to do better. “We spoke about the personality of the team. The mentality, the character and resilience they show is getting better all the time. “We’re in a better place now than we were a few months ago. Three months ago, I think we might have lost that game three or four but to come back the way we came back is a credit to the players and shows how far we’ve come as a group.

“But then we reflect on how chances were conceded. We need to stop conceding those goals. We were quite open in the middle of the pitch and they were disappointing goals, weren’t they, especially the first and third ones.

“The other thing you have to factor in is that you’re playing top opposition. They had three chances and they put them away, they didn’t miss any. It was exactly the same at Sheffield Wednesday. I’d like them to have missed one of those chances!

“So we’ve talked to the players early in the week about being switched on at all times. Then, later in the week, as we always do, we’ve talked about how we are going to attack teams.”
