SHOPPERS in Burton and Uttoxeter will be able to take advantage of free parking in the town centres in the countdown to Christmas.

East Staffordshire Borough Council is lifting charges on all its car parks on every Saturday in December in the run-up to Christmas, and also on Sunday, December 18.

There will be no free parking on Christmas Eve.

Shoppers will be able to park for free on Saturday, December 3, December 10, December 17, and Sunday, December 18, in a move aimed at encouraging shoppers to spend in the towns.

Council bosses say they have chosen Saturdays to lift charges as it is the busiest shopping day, and they hope it will be a welcome boost for traders.

Borough council cabinet member for Communities and Housing

Standards, Councillor Bernard Peters, said: “In the lead up to Christmas, Saturdays are one of the busiest shopping days. In removing car parking charges on these dates we hope to see increased footfall around Burton and Uttoxeter, providing local businesses and retailers with a much-welcomed economic boost.”
