1990:
The Football Association fined Aston Villa’s Republic of Ireland star Paul Mcgrath £8,500 for comments he made about Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson in a newspaper article.
2005:
Middlesbrough’s Portuguese defender Abel Xavier was suspended for 18 months by FIFA after testing positive for methandienone, a performanceenhancing drug. The ban was later reduced to 12 months by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.
