RESTAURANT IN FORMER SALVATION ARMY SHOP

A TURKISH restaurant is set to open in Burton town centre, it has been revealed.

It has been announced that Gizli is set to open in the former Salvation Army charity shop, in Station Street, as its name finally went on the building.

Gizli does have a website but it is currently just a clock counting down to its opening date in Burton on Saturday, December 3.

The restaurant is moving into the former Salvation Army shop which shut in 2020. The charity revealed it would not reopen the unit after Covid lockdown restrictions on non-essential shops were lifted. A spokesman at the time said the decision to shut the store was taken before the pandemic and was due to the store becoming unprofitable together with the lease expiring that November.

At the time the-then president of Burton Chamber of Commerce Nik Hardy called the news of the closure of the Salvation Army “disheartening” and that he would be raising the matter with colleagues and the wider business company to encourage them to support the charity sector.

At the time he said the retail sector had been hit particularly hard during lockdown and urged people to support their charity shops which helped the disadvantaged and vulnerable.
