Man has an outburst at police over village speed limit

-

AN ANGRY motorist argued with police officers because of their presence conducting speed checks in a village.

Officers from Mercia Police Safer Neighbourhood Team were in Burton Road, Repton on Wednesday, when the driver approached them to complain about the 30mph speed limit in the village.

A post on the team’s Facebook page said: “Four drivers were caught speeding and were dealt with at the roadside.

“But not before a male motorist had a ‘Victor Meldrew-style’ rant at the team, expressing considerable umbrage at the local 30-miles-per-hour restriction in the village.

“However, when your Safer Neighbourhood Team explained that officers listen to community concerns and take action, including dealing with those people who think it is acceptable to hurtle through village locations, the man calmed and apologised for his outburst.”

The team said there would be more speed checks in the village in the run-up to Christmas.
