Stepping back in time to a Victorian Christmastime
CHILDREN, parents and teachers at an East Staffordshire school stepped back in time and enjoyed a Victorian Christmas fair in December 2002.
The event at St Augustine’s First School in Draycott in the Clay, featured Santa’s grotto and a pupils’ fancy dress competition. The event raised £1,000 for the school.
The fair saw members of the school’s Parent and Teacher Association dress up in 19th century outfits.
Staff and parents also manned a stall selling traditional handmade Christmas gifts, such as wreaths and candle decorations.
Other attractions at the event included an auction, a cake stall, a raffle and tombolas.
A school spokeswoman said she was delighted at how much the event had raised. She said: “It’s absolutely brilliant.
“We’ve never had an event which raised so much. It’s been one of the best fund-raisers we’ve had.
“All the parents and all the teachers at the school got involved. It was a really good success.”
Special guests at the event included Mayor of East Staffordshire Councillor John Galbraith and Mayor of Uttoxeter Coun David Whitmore.
