Three wins in a row for Albion women

- BURTON ALBION WOMEN

BURTON Albion Women made it three wins on the spin on Sunday as they beat Crusaders 2-0 in the West Midlands Reguional League Premier Division.

The game began slowly for both sides, neither having any big chances in the first 25 minutes.

There was an injury concern early on as club captain Amber-leigh Denny needed treatment in her own box but she was able to continue.

Albion’s first chance came in the 30th minute when the in-form Hajrah Mahmood broke through the defence down the left and slid a ball through to Farrah Hoyle, who was unlucky to slip as she shot, the ball going wide. Goalkeeper Alice Langstone was troubled on only a couple of occasions through the game, the highlight an excellent low save to keep out a free kick as the first half ended goalless.

The Brewers continued to play with confidence in the second half and earned their reward with a goal just before the hour.

Mahmood timed a run in behind the defence perfectly and when the ball fell to her in front of goal, the teenager made no mistake, hammering the ball in off the bar.

The Brewers kept up the pressure on Crusaders late in the game and doubled their advantage in the 76th minute.

Emily Gillott sprinted away from the defence and slotted the ball past the keeper from the edge of the box to seal the points.

It is leaders Sutton Coldfield Town next at the Pirelli on Sunday (3pm).
