Man, 64 jailed for child sex offences
POLICE OFFICERS PRAISE THE BRAVERY OF VICTIM AFTER SENTENCE FOLLOWING JANUARY CONVICTION
A MAN has been jailed for 12 years after being convicted of historic child sex offences in Burton.
Police launched an investigation in August 2020 after the victim came forward to tell cops what had happened.
Investigating offices started compiling evidence and Christopher Walkman, aged 64, of Swadlincote, was charged.
He appeared at Stafford Crown Court, below right, on January 16 of this year and was found guilty following a trial of seven counts of indecent assault of a girl under the age of 16.
Sentence was adjourned and at Wolverhampton Crown Court on Wednesday April 24, he was sentenced to 12 years in prison with an extended licence period of one year.
Detective Constable Scott Martin, who investigated the case, said: “Without the bravery and support of the survivor, this conviction would not have been possible and no one would have known about Walkman’s crimes.
“I hope this serves as a message to all survivors of sexual offences that they will be listened to and heard by specialist officers who are passionate about stopping those responsible.” A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: “We are committed to working alongside our partners to deliver the toughest enforcement available to those found guilty of sexual crimes.
“We’ve already undertaken a significant amount of work in this area and we’re committed to continuing to make progress and supporting those affected by it.
“If you’re a victim, please get in touch with us by calling 101 or messaging us using Live Chat on our website.
