‘Hidden gem’ geared up for success
THE MP for South Derbyshire visited a technology firm in Repton which makes race engines for the world of motorsport.
Conservative MP Heather Wheeler dropped into Gibson Technology to meet with managing director Mark Brittan and operations director John Manchester.
She was then shown around the site for a more in depth understanding of how each Gibson engine is constructed and tested.
Mr Brittan and Mr Manchester began the visit with a quick catch up and told Mrs Wheeler about how one of the company’s first historic Zytek race cars, along with the assets of their chassis business, had just been sold to another company and will compete in ‘races around the world.’
Ms Wheeler said: “South Derbyshire is an extraordinary place to live, let alone work. One hidden gem definitely has to be Gibson Technology.
“A South Derbyshire business providing for all sorts of motorsports across the globe. Now working with organisations to provide the next
generation of vehicles. Unbelievable.
“Repton is a historic village which has come from being the Saxon capital of Mercia to housing a business dedicated to the world of motorsport.
“I know I will be keeping my eye
on the races knowing all the hard work and effort put in by all the, very local, staff in the business.”
Gibson Technology informed Heather about their involvement with new advanced electrical machines and novel power electronic systems, which have been
designed with vehicle mounted applications in mind, providing auxiliary power where mains may not exist.
Mr Manchester said: “We were delighted and honoured to again have MP Heather Wheeler OBE visit our engineering facilities.
“With our continuing expansion, in both the motorsport and nonmotorsport sectors, the visit presented us with the perfect opportunity to demonstrate our very latest cutting-edge technology, and also our extensive engineering capabilities.”
