It’s a first win for Walton after solid scoring

-

WALTON ON TRENT have their first win in Howden Group Division Two, thrashing Shipley Hall by 113 runs with their ground finally fit for play.

Conditions are still bowler friendly for most and Shipley put Walton in but Tom Oomer and James Blackwell put together a solid 76 for the first wicket.

They went close together for 34 and 35 respectively but Callan Harvey (25) and Freddie Shreeve (46) picked up the baton by adding 55 for the third wicket.

David Preston chipped in 21 not out and Walton made it to 210-7.

It proved more than enough as Daniel Russell took the first three wickets to fall for 34 runs.

Any chance of a Shipley recovery was gone when they lost three more wickets with the score on 78, two to Nick Campion and one to Callan Harvey.

Harvey got his second two runs later and it was as good as game over at 80-7.

Shipley were all out for 97, Campion finishing with 3-13 from eight overs and Harvey 2-13. Opening bowler Arran Oomer returned to take the last two wickets.

Tutbury’s scheduled game away to Spondon seconds fell victim to conditions – some grounds have still not fully recovered from the severe wet winter and spring.

In Division Three South, Lullington Park eased to a threewicket win away to Etwall after bowling them out for 98, Paul Dawson taking 4-12 from 8.5 overs and Liam Kelly and Raza Tahir taking two wickets each.

Victory probably would not have happened without Waqar Ali Ahmed coming in at 22-2 and guiding Lullington home with 42 not out from 89 balls as wickets fell all around him.

Brandon Ridgway (58 not out) and Jack Watkins (59) spearheaded a good innings of 239-7 for Rolleston seconds as they beat Wootton by 111 runs.

Niall Dawkins, with 4-26, was the pick of the bowlers as Wootton were bowled out for 127.
