Sore feet but happy faces after effort

-

AFTER 177 miles, nine days and a series of painful blisters, an FUW walking team finally completed a fundraising challenge along the length of Offa’s Dyke.

In doing so the Caernarfonshire squad collected £2,000 for the British Heart Foundation Cymru charity.

After finishing the trek, county executive officer Gwynedd Watkin, who led the team, declared it had been tougher than the Inca Trail in Peru that he tackled last year.

“It was a real challenge,” he said.

“I would advise all those who are thinking of following in our footsteps to make sure they’ve got a plentiful supply of proper walking socks!”

The Caernarfonshire crew also included Gwilym Evans of Gelli, Prenteg near Tremadog, and Arfon Hughes of Braich-y-Bîg, Cwm Ystradllyn, Garndolbenmaen.

They were joined on the first day by Richard Parry of Gwindy, Llecheiddior, Garndolbenmaen.

Mid-way through the walk, the Caernarfonshire team linked up with Huw Jones, county executive officers for Meirionnydd and Montgomeryshire, who had previously completed a section of the route.

Huw Jones said they were lucky with the weather but he had this advice for anyone else contemplating the trip.

“For those who are thinking of also walking this path, I would say take more time to do the walk,” he said.

“We were on a mission to walk this as fast as possible for charity but if you have time - sit down for a bit longer, enjoy the spectacular views ●●
