Port aim for three in row

-

PORTHMADOG will target a third straight victory this Saturday when newly-promoted Ruthin Town visit Y Traeth for a Huws Gray Alliance fixture (2.30pm).

Craig Papirnyk’s men followed up their 6-2 opening day success with a 3-1 win at home to Buckley Town last weekend.

With the wind at their backs, two goals in the first 10 minutes put Port in the driving seat.

Jamie McDaid played an excellent through ball for Cai Jones, who outpaced his marker and his well-struck angled shot hit the foot of the post and found the net.

It was no surprise when the Eifionydd men went further ahead.

Gareth Jones Evans’ defencesplitting pass allowed McDaid to race on and score with a clean finish across keeper Ben Roberts.

Buckley then rallied and Joel Haack’s header from a corner made it 2-1 on 22 minutes.

Town could have drawn level when an Andy Watkins free kick found Brad Flay in space but he screwed his shot wide.

Towards the end of the half a Julian Williams free kick had Bucks stopper Roberts at full stretch.

In the second half, play became scrappy and both teams found the blustery conditions difficult to contend with.

Near the hour mark Buckley’s Asa Hamilton put Flay through only for Richard Harvey to save well.

Following a period of Port pressure, forcing a series of corners, the deciding goal came.

Julian Williams fastened on to a Gruff Williams free kick from the right to force Roberts into a save but Cai Jones was on hand to net from close range.

In injury time sub Matty Roberts received at the back post and Harvey was forced into a sharp save, but the score at the end remained 3-1.
