Fine result for Port

- Football: Welsh Cup

SIX-GOAL hero Neil Thomas led Llanllyfni to a big 7-3 win over Llanystumdwy in the Welsh Cup first qualifying round.

Thomas, who made almost 200 appearances and netted 35 goals in a Welsh Premier League career that took in Bangor City, Porthmadog, Llanelli, Haverfordwest County and Port Talbot, proved he still has the magic touch with his double hat-trick last Saturday,

The 34-year-old, who in more recent times has also turned out for Caernarfon Town, was undoubtedly the star of last weekend’s tie which also saw Iwan Jones add a single for the home side, while Mark Cook (2) and Robert Griffiths replied for Gwynedd League underdogs Llanystumdwy.

There were also goals galore at Cae Seilo where Felinheli of Welsh Alliance Division Two pipped Division One Llandyrnog United 6-5 in an absolute stormer.

Euron Davies’ men went two-up through Martin Hughes and Iwan Owen, but Dyrny fought back to lead 3-2.

Gruff John notched Felin’s third to make it 3-4 before the home side came on strong in the closing stages, Danny Hughes (2) and Callum Macdonald sealing the win, with Llandyrnog’s Mark Roberts unlucky to score four times yet still end up on the losing team.

Nantlle Vale advanced to the next round by beating Pwllheli 3-2 at Maes Dulyn.

This was another mini giant-killing with Vale newcomers to Welsh Alliance Division Two, while Pwll are long established in Division One.

Huw Queack, Cai Holdsworth and Aaron Hughes won the day for the Nantlle, Adam Hall and Mark Jones running the visitors close.

It was another bad day for the Blaenau Amateurs who were beaten 4-2 at Cemaes Bay in an all-Welsh Alliance Division Two tie.

The Quarrymen had keeper Gethin Jones sent off late in the match when he fouled Cemaes striker Steven Whitaker in the penalty area.

Whittaker converted his second spot-kick, adding to goals from Tam Morton and Liam Griffiths.

To their credit the visitors kept plugging away after being 2-0 down at one stage and two goals from Keiron Ellis kept them in touch until the final penalty kick. ● In Welsh Alliance Division One, Penrhyndeudraeth triumphed 4-1 at Glan Conwy.

Adam Griffiths, Jack Davis, Tomos Smith and an own goal ensured Penrhyn prevailed.

Llanrug United drew 2-2 at St Asaph, David Noel Williams and Kevin Lloyd netting for the visitors.
