5,000 mile total for Gafael Llaw charity effort

-

NEARLY 5,000 miles were walked by supporters of Gafael Llaw in their efforts to walk the world in 7 days. That is equivalent to walking from Caernarfon to Delhi in India! Over 500 people joined in the challenge, which raised about £6,000 for the charity.

The challenge was launched on the 13th of August with a successful event to walk up Snowdon, and finished with a 10k Moonlight Walk in Caernarfon on the 19th of August which attracted over 200 people. This event saw Caernarfon Castle lit up in the colours of Gafael Llaw.

Iwan Trefor Jones, Gafael Llaw Chairman said: “This was a huge effort on behalf of many people in the region, and I would like to thank all those who took part in the challenge and in so doing, helping us as a charity to raise money to support the care of children with cancer in the area. The Walk the World challenge was also a huge success in raising awareness about the charity, and we will build on this in the coming months.”

Dave Parry Evans who organised the moonlight walk added: “It was great to see such a good turnout on Friday night, despite the weather. I’d like to thank all those who helped us with the week’s events; Caffi Steff, Travis Perkins, Delsol, Caernarfon Commercials, Copa, Cadw, Cyngor Gwynedd, Dan and Kenny Khan. We couldn’t have done it without their support.”

All the money raised by Gafael Llaw goes towards supporting Dewi Ward in Ysbyty Gwynedd, Alder Hey in Liverpool and the activities of Clic Sargent. To date, it has raised nearly £160,000 over 3 years.
