Firefighters tackle blaze in terrace

-

A GIANT dragon touring Wales over the summer landed outside Caernarfon Castle on Saturday.

The creature landed on the Maes for one day.

The fibreglass dragon has attracted thousands of visitors to Welsh castles over the last few months and has now moved to Harlech Castle.

At Harlech visitors are ‘dared’ to stand inside the dragon’s giant claw as they are ‘captured’ by the mythical monster.

The beast has been on a tour of Wales’ famous castles starting at Caerphilly before moving to visit Flint, Beaumaris, and Chepstow.

There is no need to book to see the dragon at Harlech, but normal admission fees apply. FIREFIGHTERS tackled a house fire in Penrhyndeudraeth on Sunday.

Three fire engines from Harlech, Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog and a fire officer were at the property on Church Place from 3.21pm.

Eye-witnesses reported seeing thick black smoke coming from the roof of a group of terraced houses.

Fortunately, nobody was hurt during the blaze.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesman said: “We were called to a fire in Penrhyndeudraeth, but we were not needed.”

Residents gathered on the street watching the scenes with concern.

One man told the Herald: “It has happened on the main road opposite the church.

“Firemen at the scene have told me that it was caused by an extension lead upstairs.

“It looked like they have had to smash in the door at the house next door to where it started to get in as there was smoke coming from the roof there too.

“A man who lives four doors down from the house also said there was smoke in his house.”

North Wales Police were also at the scene directing traffic away from the blaze.

The resident added: “The traffic has to be diverted away and the locals took care of that until the police took charge.

“I haven’t seen an ambulance on the scene but there are quite a lot of people there watching what is happening.

“I think that some of the people that live there cannot get back into their homes due to the smoke and water.”
