A NEW recording studio in Gwynedd has already worked with some of Wales’ best singers.

Stiwdio Drwm, who offer composition and arranging, recording, mixing and post-production services, worked on a new television series Deuawdau Rhys Meirion which will be shown on S4C from Friday evening.

The studio was established at Llanllyfni last November by Ifan Emlyn Jones and Osian Huw Williams, both members of rock band Candelas.

Osian has recently come to the public’s attention as a composer, winning ‘Tlws y Cerddor’, the medal for composition at the National Eisteddfod in 2015, and for arranging Candelas’ songs for the Welsh Pops Orchestra performed in a majestic concert in the National Eisteddfod pavilion in August 2016.

Osian said: “Rhys Meirion offered me the chance to arrange six duets – two for SUPERMARKET Iceland has hit back at Iceland the country over the threat of a lawsuit about using the Iceland name.

The Daily Post reported this week that Promote Iceland, the Icelandic Ministry of Foreign Affairs and SA – Business Iceland wants the Deeside-based firm to relinquish its use of the brand name within the European Union.

Icelandic website Visir said that the government bodies were cooperating with the patent attorneys of Árnason faktor to decide whether to launch the action.

The frozen food chain released this statement yesterday: “Ice- Bryn Fôn, two for Wil Tân and two for Gwyneth Glyn.

“Once the singers chose their songs I was given land Foods has traded under the Iceland name in the UK since 1970, and is today one of the UK’s most recognised brands.

“We have also traded as Iceland for many years in other EU countries and non-EU countries including Iceland itself.

“We are not aware that our use of the Iceland name has ever caused any confusion with Iceland the country.”

The Icelandic nation is con- absolute freedom to arrange them, using any instrument I wanted.”

During the show classical sidering the action because the supermarket protests when Promote Iceland and Icelandic producers attempt to register the Iceland trademark in product categories that clash with the company’s own goods.

They add that while the supermarket tries to exclude them from using the word Iceland, the discount chain greatly benefits from positive media coverage of singer Rhys Meirion will adapt to singing different styles of music. Ifan Emlyn has already recorded and mixed for many the country.

He added: “It was a pleasure to work on different types of music – from heavy rock ballads to more traditional songs.

“Working with Cwmni Da was a pleasure as they let us have complete control over the songs – Osian’s arranging, and both of our recording and mixing.”

Cwmni Da managing director Dylan Huws said it was the first time they had used the facilities at the new studio.

As Drwm approaches its first birthday, Ifan and Osian are preparing to welcome more artists into the studio over Winter including Pyroclastig, Rhys Gwynfor, Y Cledrau and Siôn Owens.

Deuawdau Rhys Meirion is on S4C on Friday at 9.30pm.

The album of duets with Rhys Meirion will be released on CD form in December 2016. the trademark ‘Iceland’ by Iceland Foods.

“The Europe-wide trademark registration for ‘Iceland’ is held by the UK supermarket Iceland Foods. Based on this registration, Iceland Foods has pursued and won multiple cases against Icelandic companies seeking to describe themselves using this word, even in cases when the products and services do not compete.

“It seems reasonable that a company or product made in Iceland or by an Icelandic company would be able to describe itself using the name of the country. Any decision about proceeding with this claim will only be made after full consideration of the interests of Icelandic companies and our people.”
