We’ll never forget the RNLI saved our lives

-

A MOTHER and daughter whose lives were saved by RNLI volunteers in Criccieth exactly a month ago have been back to say thank you.

Katie Holmes, her daughter Mandy Francis and dog Badger were rescued on August 25 after becoming trapped by an incoming tide at Black Rock Sands.

Three people in another party and a dog were also rescued in the inci- dent.

Katie and Mandy, along with Badger, wanted to thank helmsman Gordon Emery and crewmember Mick Howey in person so went along yesterday morning to do just that.

The women, from Hertfordshire, were on holiday in the area when the drama unfolded and had nothing but praise for their heroes.

Katie said: “We will never forget the care and kindness shown to us by Gordon and Mick during the rescue.

“We will never forget that the RNLI saved our lives that day and we will be eternally grateful for their work.”

The group got into trouble at Black Rock Sands in Morfa Bychan and Gwynedd and Criccieth RNLI were called out to save them.

The lifeboat was launched at around 11.30am to save the group, trapped on the north bank of the beach near the mouth of the estuary.

It was quickly on the scene and the crew took the group of walkers and their dogs ashore in two sets.

As the final set was transferred onto the beach, the bank became submerged.

Criccieth’s Lifeboat Operation Manager, Peter Williams was grateful for the women’s visit.

He said: “We appreciate the gratitude shown by Mandy and Katie.

“The crew have saved nine people off the same sandbank this summer alone.”
