NEW LIFE FOR CLOSED PUB

-

A RESTAURANT, pub, shop and flats are set to open on the site of a pub which closed this year.

This artist’s impressions shows how Y Bedol in Bethel will look following a refit approved by council planners.

The pub shut in January when owners the Kalsi family stepped down, with locals describing it as a “great loss to the community”.

Under the proposals, three flats will be built on the upper floor while the ground floor would be split between the restaurant and pub and a shop selling local food.

New owner and local businessman Gari Wyn Jones said his main reason for buying the place is the hope he can do something to help the village fulfil its potential.

He said: “Bethel is such a large village but I don’t think it shows its true potential.

“Y Bedol hadn’t been a success as a pub for the last 10-12 years because people had just stopped going.”

It is envisaged the plans would create at least four to five jobs to start with, but Mr Jones hopes that when the pub is up and running it could generate up to 12 jobs.

He hopes the new venture will be open in the next couple of months.

“We’ve already started work on alterations and renovating the place,” he added. “I am excited about the plans and hope they can bring people back to Bethel.”

Bethel councillor Sion Jones said the plans were a “huge investment for the community”, adding: “It’s nice to see the place will be back open. I wish the best for the new owner.”
