MAN, 45, FOUND DEAD IN WOODS

-

A BODY found in woodland over the weekend is that of a man who had been missing for 11 days.

It is understood Dervyn Thomas’ remains were discovered near the Tesco store in Bangor at around noon on Sunday.

An appeal was launched to find the 45-year-old from Caernarfon who had not been seen since September 22 when he left Ysbyty Gwynedd, Bangor.

The body was discovered by the British International Rescue and Search Dogs team (BIRD) during a planned search for Mr Thomas.

Police called in Ogwen Valley Mountain Rescue Team to help recover his body.

A police statement said: “North Wales Police attended a location in woodland near Tesco’s store in Bangor following the discovery of a man’s body by BIRD, who were conducting a planned search for a male missing from Ysbyty Gwynedd.

“He was pronounced dead at the scene. North Wales Police are not treating his death as suspicious and the matter has been passed to HM Coroner.

“No formal identification has yet taken place, but officers are in contact with the family of Dervyn Thomas who has been missing from Ysbyty Gwynedd since 22 September.”

Unconfirmed sightings of Mr Thomas, who had sustained a wound to his neck shortly before going missing, were reported to police at various locations in Bangor and Caernarfon.
