Preschool secures a grant to improve play area
DEINIOLEN preschool has secured £5,000 to improve its outside play area after winning a national award.
The Deiniolen preschool was awarded the funding by financial mutual, OneFamily, through its Foundation Community Awards.
The annual awards provide gamechanging opportunities for community organisations, groups and projects across the UK.
The preschool’s current play area is a bare concrete yard, and too big for the preschool’s 20 children.
With the £5,000 boost, the team will improve the yard by purchasing outdoor toys and bikes, a shed to store the new equipment, and sensory plants and planters.
The preschool will also fence off a proportion of the yard and install safety flooring so that the space is more suitable for the needs of the pupils.
Deiniolen Preschool was nominated for a Foundation Community Award by Emma Chappell, a OneFamily customer is on the school committee and whose children have attended the preschool. It was one of 41 organisations presented with an award in the latest round.
Emma said: “All of the staff were blown away when we found out that we’d won. The yard is so bare and uninviting for the children, so it’s great that we can finally make it a fun and enjoyable space.
“The new playground will bring lots of benefits to the local community, too. We already use it for a lot of local events, including a disco during our carnival week, so having a renovated space will make it better for everyone.”
Karl Elliott, marketing director at OneFamily, said: “Having a play space that’s fun, colourful and filled with new outdoor toys will be so beneficial for Deiniolen Preschool’s pupils, and it’s great to be able to support them.
“Our Community Awards go right to the heart of what being part of a mutual society is all about, directly benefitting our customers and the causes closest to their hearts.
“Our next round of Community Awards is set to launch in the autumn and we’d encourage our North Walesbased customers to get involved and nominate a cause that’s important to them.”
Through its Foundation, OneFamily redistributes a proportion of its profits back to its customers, to help them to help their families, their communities and those they care about most. In 2016, 100,000 people directly benefited from Foundation Community Awards.
Over a period of five years, OneFamily aspires to make £5 million available through its Foundation, helping to improve the lives of its customers, their families and communities.
