Mum of 2 jailed for dealing heroin

-

A DRUG addict mother-oftwo who concealed a bag of heroin when she was stopped by police has been jailed for three and a half years.

Zoe Edwards accepted supplying the drug to a small group of users to pay for her own habit.

Prosecutor Ffion Tomos told Caernarfon Crown Court Edwards had been a passenger in a car stopped by police in Bangor last July.

When officers approached the car, Edwards appeared nervous and was found holding four wraps of cocaine worth £40 each.

The 43-year-old was arrested and when officers searched her they discovered a bag of heroin with a street value of £200. Her home in Cefn Cadnant, Caernarfon, was also searched, added Ms Tomos.

Defence barrister Simon Mintz described Edwards, who admitted possession with intent to supply, as a “pitiful” drug addict.

“She’s a woman whose life has been ruined by drug addiction,” he said. “She’s had this terrible affliction for years. She has been trying to address that drug problem.”

Mr Mintz said Edwards had refused to point the finger of blame at the car driver who, because of his record, would have faced a minimum seven-year jail term if he had been held responsible for drug dealing.

“He’s a lucky man,” the barrister added.

Judge Huw Rees told Edwards her use of drugs was longstanding.

He said to Edwards: “You know as much as anybody else dealing in heroin only brings misery and even death.

“This area of North Wales has no need of people like you peddling dangerous drugs to other people.”
