Learning disability support

-

PEOPLE living with a learning disability are set to benefit from a brand new service which will be provided at the new Canolfan Goffa Ffestiniog.

The Community Learning Disability team in Gwynedd currently supports the health needs of people with a learning disability across the county; this includes holding a weekly clinic at Ysbyty Alltwen, which will soon be provided in Blaenau Ffestiniog.

The new Health and Wellbeing Centre in Blaenau Ffestiniog is an opportunity to move existing clinics to the local area and bring multiple professionals together to make these assessments more streamlined and effective.

The team will begin to carry out their clinics in new Health and Wellbeing Centre which will include Dementia Assessment Clinics, Assessments for the Learning Disability Register, Dialectic Behavioural Therapy and Behavioural Advice Clinics.

Dr Jessica York, Consultant Learning Disabilities Psychiatrist, said the new service will benefit those who currently travel to her clinic in Ysbyty Alltwen. She said: “We are really looking forward tto offering our services in the new Canolfan Goffa Ffestiniog.

“Those who already come tto my clinic in Ysbyty Alltwen will certainly benefit as it will cut down travel time. It will also provide us with the opportunity to provide more efficient and effective care with so many services under the same roof. This will definitely benefit the patient and their carers.”

The Gwynedd Community Learning Disability team have already been working hard to raise funds towards new equipment for the new service.
