FFION WILLIAMS bagged a hat-trick as Bethel romped to a 6-1 victory at Amlwch Town in the North Wales Women’s League.

Williams made it nine goals in three outings with her treble.

Katie Midwinter added two more and Leonie Prytherch also found the net.

Cari Rowlands replied for the hosts.

Pwllheli produced a great fightback at Airbus, only to lose 5-4 in the end.

Trailing 5-1, the Lleyn side rallied with a Lois Thomas hat-trick and Erin Parry single.

In other matches, Kinmel Bay lost 2-1 at Llanidloes Town and Northop Hall took the spoils 3-1 at Bangor City. ● Caernarfon Town’s first home game of the season in the Welsh Premier Women’s League ended it a 3-1 loss to Cyncoed.

Last season’s 38-goal top-scorer Catrin Thomas was on the mark for the Canaries, who by all accounts deserved better than they got. SEPTEMBER 23 sees the 11th running of the Junior North Wales Junior Mountain Running Championships on the Great Orme.

CAERNARFON Town have been drawn at home to Lex Glyndwr in the first round proper of the Welsh Cup.

Lex play in the Welsh National League (Wrexham Area) Premier Division – a level below the Canaries.

Town reached the semi-finals of the Welsh Cup last season for the first time in 29 years and will target another big run this term.

Meanwhile, the Canaries will be focusing on league action this Saturday when Flint Town United visit The Oval for a Huws Gray Alliance battle.

Caernarfon missed the chance to go top of the table last weekend when they let slip a 3-1 lead at Rhyl and had to settle for a 3-3 draw.

Cofis manager Iwan Williams said afterwards: “The one positive is we feel disappointed we only picked up a point.

“We didn’t play well, didn’t keep the ball well, invited pressure on ourselves, and showed bit of naivety when conceding the penalty at the end.

“But it proves something that a team like Rhyl are celebrating a point and we are disappointed.”

Danny Brookwell and Darren Thomas put the Canaries two-up before an own goal from keeper Alex Ramsay ensured the Lilywhites halved the deficit going into the interval.

Jay Gibbs put Caernarfon 3-1 ahead after the break, but Gerwyn Jones pulled one back and then in the final minute Mark Connolly levelled with a close range header after his initial penalty was kept out by Ramsay.

Thomas set up Brookwell for a second-minute opener following a swift counter-attack.

In the 26th minute Gibbs’ perfect pass released Thomas for the second.

On the half-hour Rhyl were thrown a lifeline when Ramsay palmed Tom Rowlands’ near post cross into his own net.

This lifted the Lilies and Alex Titchiner hit the post, before at the other end Tony Davies cleared off the line from Nathan Craig’s power-strike. Ian Fairbrother

In the 55th minute Gibbs thundered home from a Ryan Williams assist, but a diving header from Gerwyn Jones cut the arrears.

Titchiner’s header looked to have crossed the goal-line as Ramsay fisted it out, but the referee ruled no goal.

Then on 90 minutes Jay Whitehouse was felled in the box by Williams, Connolly’s kick was saved, but the taker headed in the rebound.

In added time, Brookwell wrestled himself away from James Bell’s challenge and lobbed keeper Rory Crowther to score, but referee Huw Jones had already called back play for a free kick. Bell was red-carded, the free kick came to nothing, and Gibbs was dismissed for dissent.
