YFC EISTEDDFOD
LLANGYBI came up trumps at another successful Young Farmers Eisteddfod, held at Porthmadog on Saturday.
The meet at the town’s Ganolfan, saw Eryri’s cream of the crop turn out in a feast of recitation, comedy and song.
But while Llangybi were the overall winners, it was another youngster from Llŷn who won the centrepiece Eisteddfod Chair.
Erin Hughes of Clwb Godre’r Eifl was the winner, pipping fellow club member, Euros Jones, with Meinir Owen of Llangybi coming in third.
The entrants been tasked with the theme of ‘treasure or secrets’, but it was the 19 year old Welsh and Sociology student at Bangor University, who impressed the judges the most.
The former Ysgol Botwnnog and Coleg Meirion Dwyfor student also suffers from a condition called Myasthenia gravis, that causes muscle weakness and muscle fatigue, meaning she has to visit hospital regularly.
Despite this Erin, who lives in Boduan, who joined the club six years ago, was pleased as punch to win the chair.
“I’m not sure how long it took me altogether, as it was something I seemed to go back to every now and then, but I couldn’t believe it when I heard that I’d won,” she said.
“Everyone’s been so pleased for me, its been a fantastic couple of days.”
There were plenty of other prizes awarded throughout the day, with the Gwindy, Llecheiddior Shield going to Godre’r Eifl for the highest marks in the homework section, as well as the Llen a Barddoniaeth Cup.
Dyffryn Madog, meanwhile, took home the Tudor Owen Shield for the onevoice party and Gronw Ifan Elis Griffith, Llangybi won the G.R.Davies, Llithfaen Memorial Cup for the best musical item.
County organiser, Eleri Evans, said: “We had a fantastic day on Saturday, which ended up going into the early hours of the morning.
“There’s not much time to rest, as we all look forward to the national Eisteddfod now, but it was wonderful to see the Ganolfan full to the brim, with representation of all 11 clubs in Eryri taking part.
“The Eisteddfod lasted 11 hours in total, but the standard was very high throughout.
“We’d like to thank the FUW for sponsoring the event and the Bryn Mawr family for supporting the chair.”
