Rain nearly halted Môn Eisteddfod

TORRENTIAL rain almost forced National Eisteddfod officials to halt the festival for the first time ever.

A storm on the first weekend of the event in Bodedern, Anglesey, in August flooded the car parks and turned the Maes into a quagmire.

Only the presence of a back-up plan for parking allowed the festival to continue, a report to the festival’s council has revealed.

The heavy rain rendered the car parks, which were on farmland, unusable.

A park-and-ride system had to be implemented on Monday, August 7, with two new parking sites introduced

● First up is the club’s Spring Gathering at Gorwelion, Bala, on Easter Monday, followed by its popular Model Vehicle Show at Ysgol Y Berwyn, Bala, on April 21-22, and the Bala Lake Festival of Transport at Llanuwchllyn on May 27-28.
