Ban and fine for S4C actor who admitted drink drive charge

-

AN actor caught drink-driving after supermarket staff smelt alcohol on his breath on a Saturday morning has been given a ban and a fine.

Robert Eiddior Roberts, who appeared in S4C’s Rownd a Rownd, was seen by staff at Tesco in South Road in Caernarfon at about 11.30am on March 24, loading shopping into the boot of a VW Scirocco.

Staff at the customer services desk were concerned as they had smelt alcohol on his breath.

Diane Williams, prosecuting, said police checked computer records, found the address of the registered keeper, and went to the property.

She said Roberts, 51, of Groeslon near Caer- narfon, answered the door and officers smelt alcohol on his breath as they spoke with him.

“He confirmed he had just arrived home and the shopping bags were still by the door,” said Ms Williams.

“The officers told him they believed he had driven a vehicle while above the drink-drive limit and asked him to take a breath test, which was positive, and he was arrested.”

Tests showed a reading of 58 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35.

“When charged, he told officers he hadn’t been drinking that day at all,” said Ms Williams.

Deborah Tennant Davies, defending, said Roberts had entered a timely guilty plea and had been fully co-operative.

She said he had drunk alcohol the previous evening but didn’t think he was over the drink-drive limit.

Appearing before magistrates at Caernarfon, Roberts was banned from driving for 16 months and ordered to pay £635 fines and costs.

Known in the acting profession as Robin Eiddior, he appeared regularly as Rhys in drama series Rownd a Rownd.
