No mercy as Cofis thrash visitors

-

CAERNARFON are up to second place in the North Wales Cricket League 2nd XI West Division following last weekend’s merciless thrashing of visitors Llanrwst seconds.

After winning the toss and electing to bat at Coed Helen, the Cofis must have fancied their chances knowing the away side only had eight players.

And despite losing a couple of early wickets, the hosts made hay in the sunshine, amassing a huge total of 290-6 off 40 overs.

Leading the charge was allrounder Ian Morgan, who notched the second century of his career, posting 107 off just 70 deliveries and smashing 21 fours.

Morgan received great support from Rhodri Owen, who cracked 11 boundaries in his 72-ball knock of 77, while opener Grant Peisley hit 38.

With such a big score to defend, a 15-0 victory was surely inevitable and so it proved, Llanrwst only able to manage 55-7 in reply, with just Stuart Hughes (37) making double figures.

Morgan completed a great match with 2-2 off three overs, Sameer Yusuf claiming 2-13.

This Saturday sees the Cofis home again, this time Bethesda seconds their visitors.

It was not such a good weekend for Pwllheli in the 1st XI Premier Division.

The Llyn side welcomed highflyers Brymbo to Parc Bodegroes and, after losing the toss, were asked to field first.

Pwll had the Steelmen tottering on 26-3 before the away middle order caught fire, Connor Davies hitting 62 and Joss Roberts 45 in a stand of 88 for the fourth wicket.

Gareth Boys added 34 down the order, enabling the travellers to set a respectable 196-7 off 50 overs.

Syed Kaleem Aslam was Pwll’s most successful bowler with 3-41, while Morgan Murray-Williams pocketed 2-48.

With the batting line-up at their disposal, and South African Jason Underwood back in the ranks, a score of 197 to win was well within the home team’s capabilities.

But early wickets fell and the hosts never got to grips with the Brymbo attack, collapsing at one point to 84-9, with only Underwood (32) making any impression.

A last-wicket stand of 43 between Owen Reilly (11 no) and Adam Williams’ 32 off 25 balls, helped the Llyn men to 127 all out.

Man of the match Davies scooped 4-33 for Brymbo, Ben Roberts with 3-29 in a 13-2 victory.

Pwllheli will look to bounce back when they entertain lowly Hawarden Park this Saturday.

Better fortunes for Pwllheli seconds in the 2nd XI West Division as they cruised to a seven-wicket success at Abergele seconds.

Gele batted first and set 177-7 from 40 overs, Neil Williams snapping up 4-16 from seven overs for the visitors.

Williams led the way again when Pwllheli batted, scoring 52 to pass 600 league runs for the campaign at a stunning average of 122.20.

Fellow opener Iwan Moore made 40, Rhys Griffiths 26 no and Yasharth Mishra 24 no as the Llyn outfit breezed to 180-3 in 38.3 overs for a 13-2 verdict.
