Fizzing with fun on 5k for sports charity

-

MORE than 170 women took to the promenade in Llandudno at the start of September for the annual Fizzy Friday 5K Fun Run, raising money for the Network She Foundation, to support women and girls in sport.

Participants gathered at The Imperial Hotel for their first fizz stop, before making their way over to the start line on the promenade.

Dave Paveley, from North Wales Honda and Jade Paveley Motorsport, set the women off on their way to their next fizz stop at the Llandudno Bay Hotel.

All participants then jogged, ran and walked back along the prom to the Kings Head Pub, returning to the seafront for their fourth fizz stop, at the St. Georges Hotel, before racing to the finish line outside The Imperial Hotel.

Participants could be seen along the promenade laughing and enjoying every moment of the event, and celebrating as they crossed the finish line!

They had travelled from across North Wales to take partt and some came from as far away as Sheffield and Nottingham!

Participant Claire Jones said “I’ve had an amazing evening yet again, with a great sense of fun and friendship amongst everyone. What better motivation to run than glasses of Prosecco along the way!”

The ladies behind the Fizzy Friday 5K Fun Run are Ruth Lloyd Williams and Melanie Lawton, from Network She, and Caroline Roberts, from Bella the Prosecco Van.

We caught up with Ruth Lloyd Williams to find out how this year’s event compared to last year…

“This year’s event has seen more women enter and it’s been great to see women take part for the second year running, alongside some new faces too!

“The Fizzy Friday 5K is all about empowering participation and we were thrilled to be told by one fun runner that a number of the women had met for the first time at last year’s Fizzy Friday 5K as complete novices. They have since developed a running group that meets regularly and now have members registered to run the Cardiff Half in October.

“They would never have met and would never have experienced the friendship and encouragement had it not been for the Fizzy Friday 5K,”

Caroline Roberts also added, “We’ve loved watching everyone’s reaction as they’ve crossed the finish line and we’d also like to say a massive thank you to each and every person who volunteered to marshal at this year’s event. Without you, the event wouldn’t be possible, not only from a health and safety point of view but also the support you gave to each participant running past too!”

Once everyone had crossed the finish line it didn’t stop there either, as participants and marshals made their way to the after-party, hosted by The Imperial Hotel, where they danced the night away!

Five fizz stops and an after -party where you can dance the night away in trainers, what more could you want! All that’s left to say is… roll on 2019!
