Determined defending and on-target Breese give Town edge

-

CAERNARFON Town were on cloud nine after claiming a 1-0 win at Welsh Premier high-flyers Connah’s Quay Nomads last Tuesday.

Both sides initially struggled to create chances before, after 20 minutes, Quay’s Michael Wilde challenged Nathan Craig in the six yard area from a Craig Jones free kick.

Wilde’s efforts to reach the ball triggered a scuffle between the players, but referee Kevin Parry quickly restored order.

In the 28th minute, Caernarfon’s Ryan Williams fired a 30-yard effort towards goal which was pushed wide by John Danby.

Five minutes before the break, Jack Kenny took the ball to the Caernarfon byline, passing to Callum Morris in the centre of the area, who sent an effort wide.

Just as the game looked like it would be goalless at half time, Jamie Breese burst from the halfway line into the box and sent a fierce effort past Danby.

Nomads won a succession of corners in the second half, but an on-form Town defended admirably.

At times Quay were heavily populating the Caernarfon end and making good moves into the area, but a clinical finish evaded them.

In the 85th minute, a quickly-taken free kick from Morris sent John Disney through on goal, but his angled effort took a deflection off a defender and went narrowly wide.
