‘Posh sausages’served at gourmet pop-up stall
FOR one day only, a pop-up stall in Cardiff city centre gave away gourmet hot dogs produced on the Llŷn Peninsula.
The “Posh Sausage Pop-Up” also provided luxury table service from a team of black-tie waiters.
Run by the Porc. Wales campaign, established by meat levy body Hybu Cig Cymru (HCC), the idea was to showcase the best of Welsh pork products.
The hot dogs were served a first-comefirst-get basis outside the Capitol Centre, Cardiff, from 12pm on Monday.
Kirstie Jones, HCC’s market development officer, said: “We want to prove that, when it comes to pork from Wales, you don’t need a five-star kitchen to produce a gourmet food experience.”
Choosing the best sausage for the job fell to former Wales rugby star Scott Quinnell and fellow HCC judges at this year’s Royal Welsh Show.
Producers were invited to enter products and the winning verdict went to a speciality pork and cheese sausage from Gwyneddbased Oinc Oink.
Huw and Ela Roberts of Oinc Oink, Llithfaen, coupled their ownreared pork meat with Vintage Welsh Cheddar from nearby South Caernarfon Creameries.
“It’s Welsh produce at its best!” said Ela.
