Bethel battle back:

- Women’s Football

BETHEL will target a fifth straight win in North Wales Women’s Football League Division One when they host traditionally strong rivals Airbus this Sunday at Cae Seilo, Felinheli (1pm).

Ben Bolton and Aaron Jones-Evans’ side will take on the Wingmakers boosted by last weekend’s 3-2 victory in a thriller against previously undefeated Pwllheli, which saw the league leaders recover from two goals down to take maximum points.

Bethel got off to a poor start to as Pwll came out all guns blazing.

As the home defence failed to clear the ball on the edge of the area, it broke to Amy Roberts, who took a touch and fired in from 18 yards. ●

Bethel grew into the game and started to create chances, but suddenly found themselves 2-0 down, against the run of play. Pwllheli hit their hosts on the counter attack.

Magi Elin found herself in way too much space, was not closed down and fired from 25 yards, a great strike that left the Bethel keeper helpless.

The maroons dominated the rest of the half, with striker Erin Maloney and Ffion Williams going close and the lat- ter striking the post on the 40-minute mark.

Just before half time, Anest Roberts struck a free kick that stung the Pwllheli keeper’s hands, but it stayed 2-0 at the break.

Bethel came out for the second half like a completely different side, the force that had been on show for the first three games of the season.

The introduction of Yasmin Williams made an instant impact as she sent Ffion Williams through, but the inform striker sent her shot wide of the target, much to the despair of the home faithful.

The 72nd minute mark was the turning point in the game where Bethel stunned Pwllheli.

Gwenno Gibbard-Bolton held up the ball before sending it through for Maloney, whose pace helped her reach it before the onrushing goalkeeper and covering defender to slot home and reduce the deficit.

A minute later Bethel were level. Pwllheli gave away the ball from their kick off, straight to Anest Roberts, whose immaculate first touch allowed her to send an early ball over the top to Ffion Williams, who this time made no mistake one-on-one to draw her side level.

Pwllheli were in shock as Bethel dominated.

Ffion Williams was denied a penalty late on when she was clattered in the area, but nothing was given.

Just as it looked as if the game was destined to finish level, the ever-dangerous Maloney struck again.

Sent through by a pinpoint GibbardBolton pass, Maloney outpaced her defender and stayed calm to dink the Pwllheli keeper, seal all three points and send the Bethel coaches and support into raptures.

Once again, Bethel thank CPD Felinheli for allowing them to use their facilities for the match.
