Celts turn up the heat for hard-fought vic­tory over new ri­vals

CAERNAR­FON Celts Un­der-18 bas­ket­ball team, pic­tured, be­gan their sea­son with a 74-56 vic­tory against new lo­cal ri­vals Ban­gor City.

An ex­cit­ing first pe­riod set the tone for a com­pet­i­tive sport­ing en­counter be­tween two tal­ented sides. Some great open­ing bas­kets, de­spite in­tense de­fence from both teams, saw the quar­ter end­ing 19-14 to Celts.

Ta­bles were turned in the sec­ond quar­ter as Ban­gor outscored the Cofis 16-14, but the match stood 33-30 to Caernar­fon over­all.

Celts turned up the heat in the third pe­riod with a solid de­fen­sive dis­play that kept City to eight points for the quar­ter, while the Cofis made the best of their of­fen­sive op­por­tu­ni­ties by scor­ing 25 points.
