Pwll push on to make it seven wins in a row

-

PWLLHELI travel to Mold this Saturday looking to extend their perfect record in Division One North to eight straight wins.

The Llyn side were involved in a cracking clash last weekend away to bottom side Llangefni, which ended in a 53-37 victory for the visitors.

After less than 20 minutes, it looked like a total humiliation was on the cards as Pwll had won their bonus point with a fourth try and led 26-3.

Cefni fought back strongly, however, and actually won the next 60 minutes 34-27.

Four minutes in, full-back Carwyn ap Myrddin broke through centre field and raced clear for his first league try in Pwllheli colours.

Three minutes later, he repeated his effort after the home side were shunted off the first scrum of the afternoon on halfway. The ball was moved right and then left to midfield, where ap Myrddin collected and broke the defensive line again, scampering over for his second try, which he converted.

Another dominant scrum and a Tom Parry drive saw Deio Brunelli receive the ball in space and side-step his way over the line, ap Myrddin adding more extras.

On restart, Llangefni upped their tempo which earned them a penalty, successfully converted by Rhys Hughes. Picture: Ian Horsman Triple Effect

Back came Pwllheli, winger Robin Hughes Jones speeding down the flank to score the bonus-point try for the visitors, ap Myrddin adding his third conversion.

The hosts rallied strongly, tries from Greg Horsman and Gethin Andrews, both converted by Hughes, cutting the arrears to 26-17.

Pwllheli attacked from the restart and a lineout and drive led to hooker Kevin Morris grounding for a fifth away try.

Cefni scrum-half Aled Jones replied from close range to make the score 31-22 to the travellers at the interval.

Llangefni started the second half with a break and drove a maul into Pwllheli territory only to have the ball ripped from their grasp and kicked across field. Centre Gareth Williams gathered and raced over for an away score.

Hughes hit back with a home penalty, but a dominant scrum enabled Pwll captain Tom Parry to cross the whitewash and make it 41-25.

Pwllheli then offloaded the bench when Tomos Wyn, Abner Roberts and Bleddyn Hughes were introduced, but the game continued at the same pace.

A second try from Andrews and Hughes’ booted bonus cut the gap to nine points.

The visitors then began to dominate again, tries from Tom Parry and Robin Hughes Jones sealing the win before prop Bedwyr Williams touched down for Cefni.
