Rug on a roll as they end run
LLANRUG United will have fond memories of their trips to Anglesey over the past week.
Last Wednesday, David Noel Williams’ side became the first team to defeat Llangefni Town this season, bringing an end to a 17-match unbeaten run for the Welsh Alliance Division One leaders.
‘Rug trailed 1-0 at Lon Talwrn to a Matthew Jones goal, but after home keeper Liam Ewing was red-carded 10 minutes later for bringing down Carl Griffiths in the area, Jonathan Sadler equalised from the resultant penalty, firing past stand-in glovesman, ex-United striker Alan Mark Owen.
Substitute Aaron Hughes netted a fantastic winner in the second half for Llanrug, who had Llion Jones sent off late on, but stayed strong to record a momentous victory.
Three days later Llanrug were celebrating again after winning 4-3 on penalties at Bodedern Athletic in the Cookson Cup, the teams finishing 4-4 following extra time.
Shaun Jenkins, Aidan Clarke, Steven Whittaker and an own goal made up the Boded tally, Carl Griffiths, Aaron Hughes, Dylan Owen and Luke Phillips responding for the visitors.
Llanrug led 2-0 early on, but Athletic rallied to be 3-2 up by half time.
It then went to 3-3 before extra time, where United edged in front again, only for Boded to equalise and this led to the shoot-out which ‘Rug won.
Llanrug are home to Greenfield in a Welsh Alliance Division One fixture this Saturday.
To cap off a great November for the Eithin Duon club, David Noel Williams has been named Welsh Alliance Division One Manager of the Month.
