Bro battered after a bright start against the champions Nant

-

BRO Ffestiniog failed to build on taking an early lead against Division One North champions Nant Conwy and finished up 59-7 losers at Dolawel.

On a bitterly cold but dry day with the pitch in a really good condition, the home side went ahead with a third-minute try from forward Tom James converted by Gareth Davies.

Indeed, Bro could have added further points before Nant began to react and equalised after 14 minutes.

Captain Ifan Jones scored the first of his three tries when he squirmed from the defensive tackles to touch down beneath the posts. Full-back Steffan Horan added the opener of his six successful conversions.

The same pair produced a similar converted try three minutes later. Cai Jones notched the third try before the bonus point arrived, excellent flanker Ifan Emyr Williams powering through.

Before the break, Ifan Jones completed his hat-trick of tries, with Horan’s boot making it a half time score of 33-7.

The second half began in the same vein with the Nant pack pressurising the home eight and scrum-half Guto Dafydd squeezing over from the base of a ruck.

Nant made several changes and Morgan Dafydd bulldozed his way across the whitewash. Horan converted and was substituted after an excellent match.

Eighty minutes had been played when the Nant pack scored a pushover try with Carwyn Ellis getting the final touchdown.

Full-back Sion Pringle then gathered a high ball in his own half and backed himself to out-run the entire defence. He grounded beneath the posts, then added the conversion to round off the scoring.

Third-bottom Bro will aim for better when they visit Ruthin this Saturday.
