CAMPSITE HORROR DRIVER: I DESERVE TO BE PUNISHED
Woman fighting for life after he crashed into her tent:
AMAN wept in the dock as a court heard he felt he “deserves to be punished” for leaving a woman fighting for her life after crashing through her tent.
Jake Robert Waterhouse pleaded guilty to four charges as Llandudno Magistrates Court heard he took a friend’s Subaru Impreza and drove it around a field at the Rhyd y Galen campsite near Bethel in Gwynedd in the early hours of Monday morning, August 19.
Four people were injured, including Anna Roselyn Evans, who remains in a critical condition.
The 26-year-old of Hazel Walk, Partington, Manchester told his solicitor he accepts full responsibility.
He cried as he admitted
charges including causing serious injury to Ms Evans by dangerous driving, driving otherwise in accordance with a driving licence, driving a motor vehicle without insurance and failing to provide a breath specimen for analysis.
No indication of plea was made for a fifth charge of dangerous driving.
Prosecutor Gareth Parry said: “These are very serious matters,” that aren’t suitable for summary trial.
Mr Parry said there was evidence to suggest Waterhouse had been “drinking heavily” when he drove the car around a field colliding with tents and leaving Ms Evans with lifethreatening injuries at around 2am.
Defence solicitor, Cerys Parry said: “My client takes full responsibility for the devastating events in the early hours of Monday morning at the campsite in Bethel. He is truly and deeply remorseful for his actions.
“His thoughts the last two days have been with the victim of his offending and her family. He accepts he is facing a lengthy sentence as a result of his actions.
“In his own words, he said ‘I deserve to be punished.’
“He accepts the full facts of the prosecution case and takes full responsibility.”
No application for bail was made during the brief proceedings and the matter was transferred to the crown court.
Magistrates imposed an interim driving ban on Waterhouse, who was further remanded in custody until his next appearance at Caernarfon Crown Court on September 23.
