Eight-man Tigers are no match for Nefyn

- Football

NEFYN United continued their impressive start to the Gwynedd League season with a 5-2 victory at champions Menai Bridge Tigers, who finished up with eight men after this clash.

Second-place Bridge had lost just once in their previous six outings, but were well beaten by the Gwynedd side.

The Tigers led 1-0 through Dafydd Healy until the 35th minute, but then had two players sent off, which totally changed the complexion of the game.

Healy struck again in the second half, but the hosts had another man red-carded.

Dylan Sion Jones scored twice and Guto Sion, Daniel Roberts and playermanager Carl Jones were also on target for the away side.

Nefyn are now fourth in the table, nine points behind leaders Trearddur Bay Bulls but with two games in hand and are looking well-placed to challenge at the top of the table.

Only one league game was played on Saturday, two others having taken place on Thursday night with Bro Goronwy winning 2-1 at Llangoed and Bontnewydd romping to a 9-1 success away to Llannerchymedd.

Morgan Roberts scored a hat-trick for Bont with their other goals coming from Alun Williams, Cai Penny Williams, Daniel Evans, Josh Roberts and a double from Aled Steele.

Shaun Pritchard was on target for Llannerchymedd on a chastening evening for the Anglesey side.

Waunfawr’s clash at Caergybi was postponed due to no referee being available.

In the Welsh Alliance Reserve Division Pwllheli were 6-1 winners over Colwyn Bay.

The home side were 4-0 up by half-time thanks to goals by Connor Livingstone, a brace from Iwan Jones and Rhys Williams.

Williams and Livingstone both completed their doubles in the second half with Hari Fon Gwilym getting Bay’s consolation.

Last week, Porthmadog were 4-1 winners of Llanrwst United thanks to a hat-trick from Arwyn Parry Jones and one from Tomos Hughes with Allan Hughes replying for Llanrwst.
